Default Brugmansia (Non-poisonous) Substitute?

On 25 Mar 2004 23:11:07 -0800, (Jeanne Baggins)
opined:

I just love Brugmansias, but I can't buy one because I'd be too
worried about my dog who has a habit of sleeping under trees. Is there
a similar looking non-poisonous plant/ornamental tree that can survive
in zone 8? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeanne,
Seattle, WA

Brugs are hardy to your zone, usually, but will always die back after frost.
Period.

I have about 10 brugs in tubs and half of them are over 10 feet tall. In nature
they can reach 15 feet, but that's frost-free areas in Peru!

Far as I can tell, the only thing which loves to eat this plant are spider
mites, tobacco and tomato hornworms and flea beetles.
