What sort of wall? On some types of soil, removing a tree can cause
'heave' - the opposite of subsidance - when the water content of the soil
increases due to the loss of the tree.

If it's just a garden wall, you can get a chemical to pour on the stump
which kills it off. I think I used something called SBK.
