Looked at some Acer trees in local B+Q store, about Five foot high, are
these OK to grow in larger pots ? any special requirements?

Don't over-water it; let it drain *completely* - better a little too dry
than a lot too wet; no perpetually wet feet, never, ever. Keep it out of
cold or persistent wind, don't pay a fortune - they're rewarding but can be
tricky.
