Default In need of tree/shrub suggestion

Tony Carnell16/4/04 9:07

Hi all,

I'm in need of some advice on a suitable small tree or shrub to place in my
front garden.

It needs to be small (roughly 6-8 ft in height), and preferably have
year-round interest in leaf colour, bark, etc (scented flowers would be an
added benefit although not compulsory).
It's position will be full sun, in moderately heavy clay soil - although a
fair bit of soil improvement has been carried out and the ground is quite
fertile.
It will also be placed near the edge of the garden towards the pavement,
between which there is a retaining wall since the pavement level is lower,
so I don't want something that will have a rootrun that may damage and/or
push the wall out.

Is there a small tree or shrub that fits the bill?

Hi, Tony. How about a Kilmarnock Willow? Or you could keep a Camellia as
you want it and ditto certain Eucalyptus, perhaps Olearia, Eleagnus,
Escallonia. But where you live is quite important in terms of what people
suggest. Can you give us a general location?
