Default In need of tree/shrub suggestion

Hi all,

I'm in need of some advice on a suitable small tree or shrub to place in my
front garden.

It needs to be small (roughly 6-8 ft in height), and preferably have
year-round interest in leaf colour, bark, etc (scented flowers would be an
added benefit although not compulsory).
It's position will be full sun, in moderately heavy clay soil - although a
fair bit of soil improvement has been carried out and the ground is quite
fertile.
It will also be placed near the edge of the garden towards the pavement,
between which there is a retaining wall since the pavement level is lower,
so I don't want something that will have a rootrun that may damage and/or
push the wall out.

Is there a small tree or shrub that fits the bill?

Amelenchier? Upright shrub, delicate leaves which are a lovely bronze in
spring and a good red in autumn, masses of white flowers in spring,
berries.
