Bill, Yep .. sounds like you have some very hungry fish.
A teaspoon of food isn't enough for even one Koi ;-)
I would put some sort of protection on the bottom of the
pond for the fish to escape to. Lengths of 4" inch PVC
about 5 or six inches long serve my fish well.

Also, sounds like your pond is seriously overcrowded
with fish. Have you thought of giving some away?
We, here on this newsgroup, recommend that koi need
1,000 gallons of water to begin with - then 100
gallons for each additional koi.
