Default Starting spirea

do these propagate by bending the stem down and making contact with soil? or the tip?

In July / August look for some half-ripe new growths. These can be rooted in
a sandy soiled cold frame. Divisions are possible between October and March.

At my daughter's house there is a "shoebutton" spirea that is blooming.

I'd
like to start some of these for my yard. What kind of cuttings do I take?

I
don't see any branches without flowers down the ends. The branches are

very
thin and brittle. We looked for suckers at the bottom but don't see any I
could take.
