Nah, Brussels wouldn't let him. He was on St John's wort, which is not
an approved drug.

Mushrooms of some sort, I presume - dried Fly Agaric, perhaps?

No, derived from Hypericum perforatum. a perennial, and related
Hypericum species that grow to around 2ft + (with yellow flowers).
Some are fairly common in the UK.
