The lawn is to be laid in a south facing garden (less than 25% in the
shade)
with clay soil and needs to be suitable for a small child.

Camomile is one, though it would need mowing maybe a couple of times.
I don't think it's hardwearing though. I've also heard of clover and yarrow
being used but you'll have to do your own research.
