One for trees would be good too.

Do you want to identify garden plants or wild plants? It makes a
difference!

I doubt it does to the plant ;-) Mainly garden plants but it would

be nice
to have a comprehensive book - the RHS one that the other guys

mention
sounds good.

The RHS won't do for UK wild plants, but unless you're particularly
interested in that, then the RHS will do you fine.

It also has quite a few trees in, so, again, no need for a separate
book. Wait till you've got the RHS book and used it awhile, and then

see
where you feel your gaps are.

The only problem with the RHS Encyclopedia is its sheer weight. It
just cannot be read in bed.

Not so! You lay it on the floor, then lie on your tummy with your head
overhanging the book. Where there's a will there's a way!
