I was told by a friend that now that my tank is planted and I am using
the CO2 that when I do a water change that I should stop using the
AMQUEL and NOVAQUA that I had been adding to the tank. Is this true?
Also, any other advice to a newbie to the planted tank world would be
greatly appreciated.

Well, unless you are doing 5% water changes, I would certainly use
Amquel or seachem Prime as directed on any treated tap water using
Chloramines or chlorine.
