IME, alarm companies are pretty slow off the mark to notify police; a
good 10 minutes or even longer.

Indicates that neighbours are
within indoor earshot at least, thats not very far with double glazing
etc...

In the countryside, sound carries a very long way. Thinly scattered
"neighbours" who happened to be outside, could easily hear an alarm from
a mile and a half away, well enough to identify whose it was from the
pitch and pulse. People there use much louder alarms than would be
permitted in a built up area.
