| Hi, Last summer during the heat wave, all my Fuchsias on my

balcony
withered
| and died, even though I tried to keep them cool with spraying.
| Can anyone tell me what the maximum full sun temperature that they

can
| tolerate outdoors is?. And do you have any 'high temperature' tips

please?
| I live in London.
| Thanks
| Bjazz.

"Most" fuchsias prefer shade and cool roots, a balcony in full sun

would
give you problems. Don't forget that you probably also get drying

winds
that will not help.

If you must have fuchsias go to a specialist that can supply you

will the
new Californian breed varieties, I grew them last year in full sun

and they
were fine. I would also put a large tray of gravel down first and

put the
fuchsia pots on that, then when watering the pots fill up the gravel

tray to
give a humid atmosphere. (Make sure that the bottom of the pot is

above the
water level.)

I have very severe doubts if that will make any measurable difference
at all to the humidity around the leaves if the pot is in the open.
The very slightest of air movements would shift the damp air out of
the way.

Failing all this change to balcony mini trailing geraniums, these

seem to
love this position, that's why they have balcony in their name!
