Default Help with an odd Dendrobium ID

In B&B's "Orchid Species Cultu Dendrobium" a yellow flowered
variety, D. farmerii var. aureoflava is mentioned.

Hi all,

Someone brought in what was labeled "Den. farmeri v. aurea" to AOS judging
in SF on June 1. The plant looked just like a typical Den. farmeri - four
sided pseudobulbs, etc. but the flowers were a uniform gold color instead of
the two-tone white flower with gold lip.

A photograph of the flower can be found he

The book Dendrobium and its Relatives makes no mention of a solid gold
colored form.

Is this really a species or is it a hybrid? No one had heard of the 'v.
aurea' form of Den. farmeri, including Ron Parsons.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!
