I had the same problem with my koi when I introduce some as's to my
pond. They stayed away for about 1 day.

Usually there is always ONE fish with the most guts that leads the
others out of hiding...luckily I have 4 that are not shy as the rest.
And yes those 4 are the fattest! ;-)
