.....and the question is "How many figs do you have this year?"

Just following on from the various fig threads (some around this time last
year), especially about Brown Turkey figs grown in patio pots.

I fed (overfed?) my fig last year - loads of Growmore in the top of the
planter with the intention of feeding each time the tree was watered.

This strategy (although not as recommended on the packet) seems to have
worked well, and also worked for the wisteria up against the house.

In summer, I now water at least once a day, sometimes more.

{pause}

I have just checked Google Groups and see I had 60 small fruits in mid May
last year - so perhaps this is not such an outstanding crop.
However they all seem to be going strong in early July, so perhaps I wll get
most of them to ripen :-)

We are just reorganising our patio area at the moment - hence the rather sad
and lonely picture at
http://www.chelsworth-lodge.nildram....ng%20plant.jpg
and I am finding that it is difficult to move (or find a temporary location
for) a fig tree with long drooping branches.

I think I will shorten the branches considerably after the fruit has ripened
to produce a bushier tree.

Cheers
Dave R
