Default [IBC] Humidity Trays

In a message dated 7/5/04 10:43:04 PM, writes:
If it's a myth why do so many, who are supposedly in the know, recommend
them?

For the same reason that so many other myths abound in many fields. As Hitler
said, if a lie is repeated often enough, people believe it. The humidity tray
myth is spouted by orchid experts all the time. These are people who grow in
Florida greenhouses.
I conducted my own experiment 35 years ago, and found that a humidity tray on
a sunny windowsill in February raised the humidity about 3%. Others have
claimed 7%. It happens that Ficus benjamina in an unheated room in the winter
doesn't need added humidity at all.
