That doesn't sound like a fungus if the area isn't soft.
Those random spots don't happen to all randomly face south, do they?
I'm wondering about sunburn.

I've got lots of large hard green tomatoes. A few of them have a dark
brown, nearly black. discoloration that covers part of the fruit. The
locaton seems random. The fruit isn't softened or in any way bloated.

We've had about 72 hours of rain or tropical, dripping, humidity here
and I wonder if it's related.

I look thru the gardening web sites doesn't find a picture
of anything like this.

June and July, so far, have been on the cool side. It's only been
in the high 80's a couple times, and these plants are on the shady
side of garden, so that's unlikely.

It really just a couple tomaotoes and the rest seem really healty
so I'll write it off to mother nature.

Thanks
