Default Apple sawfly question

Hi,

being a novice, I've only noticed the affected apples after the
creatures in question have done their thing and left their telltale
tracks.

The question is: since not every apple on every tree has been got at,
should I remove the affected apples? Or will the apples continue to
grow, just misshapen? My ("Expert") book says the beasts go back into
the ground in July. But it also suggests that the affected apples will
drop off, and they haven't.

Any advice appreciated, including any way to fend off such an attack at
an earlier stage next year.

Thanks...
