Default uncertified pesticides on fruit trees

I know a "friend" who routinely sprays fruit trees (apple, peach, fig)
and the soil around with either Isotox or Orthene to control spider mite
after all fruit is harvested. The assumption is that although these
products are not labelled for food crops next seasons crop should not
be affected. Is this a safe assumption? I know Isotox can persist in
soil for a year, but if spraying is right after harvest then it will
be exactly one year so maybe that's long enough. Any advice on this
is appreciated-- and whether I should eat the beautiful apple pie..
