Default Pruning British Holm Oak

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know the correct time of year to prune or lop a Holm Oak?

My neighbour and friend has just had her beautiful tree massacred by a
cowboy tree surgeon. Several limbs were severely truncated and left to
bleed sap. My poor friend was in tears. The only positive note is that the
gaffer of the firm was horrified too, and declined to charge her.

We would now like to know then the best pruning 'window' falls, so that we
are forewarned before attempting remedial work and finishing the job so that
the tree has a balanced shape.

Your advice would be much appreciated.
