On 'Living World' BBC R4 this Sunday 5th Sept (6.30 am today), there
was a programme on hoverflies, which mentioned one of the largest
species of UK fly, a member of the volucella family. I got the
impression it had only really become established in SE England since
the war, but was often over an inch long.
