I've seen several insects hanging around my window frames, as if
looking for a home, that look like dirt-daubers, in that they are
shaped like small wasps with a "stem" to their "waists", and fly like
wasps or daubers, but they are only about 1/2 or 5/8 of an inch long.
Do they look like this:

That might be what I've seen, it seems to be the right size and color,
but the ones I've seen have more of a stem to their waist like a
dirt-dauber.
Is there a very small species of dirt-dauber or wasp native to this
area, or are these more likely some sort of ant drone or queen?
I had carpenter ants eradicated after they swarmed out of a window
frame last spring, and they don't look like the winged ones of
those.
