Yes, multiple cross-posting does matter. Nuisance-posters do it
deliberately to disrupt groups, and for that reason many people set
their newsreaders to automatically delete such messages. Posting replies
above the question ("top-posting") also makes threads harder to follow,
and many delete messages presented that way.

If you want your message to be read by those people most likely to
give sensible answers, it's in your interest to present it clearly.
There's a weekly message entitled abc for newcomers to uk.rec.gardening
to help you do that.
