botany is the science that studies plants, a vast field, or rather many vast
fields. This NG does not deal with most applications, like how to prepare
plants for eating (cooked or uncooked), how to grow plants, how to teach
people about plants, etc as there are separate NG's for such topics.

That still leaves plenty, but not many people are all that interested.
