never develop the phyllodes that you seem to equate with leaves. I
have not seen anything but pinnate or bipinnate leaves on the
Acacias native to New Mexico.
Part of the reason for splitting up Acacia.
I guess there is a fair chance the New Mexico species will be part of
Acaciella
