Default Corylus avellana

Hazel, widespread in NW Europe.

Bush or small tree.

Source of Cobb nuts.

Monoecious. However:

Many more plants seem to have male flowers than have both. Male flowers
seem to open first, which makes little sense.

Does anyone know anything about flowering in this specis?
