I recently planted some rhubarb. The books say not to pick for two years. Is
this correct

It is usually as well to allow rhubarb plants to settle in and develop
for at least the first year, and the wait will be repaid by better
production in many future years. If you have some good strong stems
growing in the first year, you could take just a few without harm, but
let the rest die back to help build up the plant's strength.
