Default [IBC] The generosity of bonsaiest.

I am at the computer, pondering how generous bonsaiests (sp?) are. Since I
had to leave my trees behind for my move (second time in three years!), I
wanted to rebuild. I was looking for ficus nerifolia in New Zealand, and
this tree is not in this country. While I am angling to do a few natives, I
really do like f.nerifolia and would have liked to have a couple of those.
shrug

In the course of my enquiries, I came accross someone who had also recently
moved to New Zealand and had imported some trees and gotten them through the
MAF quarantine (MAF=powers that be on all things animal and vegetal that
come in the country). He didn't have f.nerifolia, but coming from South
Africa, he offered ficus natalensis.

I just picked up a highly generous gift from him, of two f. natalensis,
including one with a 2" trunk! he even apologised that I'd have to develop
branches on it. And one small Lonicera (Box honey suckle?).

And I am reminded of the generosity of other folks, many members on this
list. Guys and gals, thank you. I only hope I can pass it onward to
someone else at some point.

The bigger ficus was grown in the ground and had a root 98% ripped off the
trunk. I cleaned it up a little and planted it, it just might sprout green
and push roots, and I'd end up with a nice mame next year or the following
one.

Cheers y'all

Nic
