But they will germinate in about two weeks even without that. May take
another week to break through the surface of the soil.

I germinate mine on kitchen towel, dampened and then put into the top
cupboard in our kitchen where it's fairly warm. Don't do anything else
and get very good germinating proportions, no chitting or scratching of
seed cover.
