It said that after spreading (i did it by hand) that the lawn

should
be safe for children after it's had a good rain or watering. Well,
it had at least three days of decent rain (i did it on Weds) and i
watered it too for good measure.

However in spite of this, the lawn still seems to have a worrying
smattering of the grains, or grain-stains (esp. where there wasn't
much grass). Should i tread them in? Or are they indeed safe? Or
have i put too much down?

I don't really think there's a problem. The tots won't eat the stuff,
after all. I suspect the problem is the hand-spreading: if you're
anything like me, there will be places with far more of the product
than others. A good mechanical spreader would have left a more even
distribution, so the rain would have done its work better.
