It was not grown as a potential Bonsai so the problems you describe
(sniped by me) are really just the luck of the draw for a nursery plant. I think
I would plant it in the ground and get another, using what I learned this
time to buy a better plant next time.
Mugo Pine will not grow in Florida, but there is a great picture in
Yoshimura's books of him collecting one in the mountains of Japan.
