I am going to comment to both Roy and Bill in 1 message here - The BH's I
use are threaded on both the outside (to tighten fitting to vessel it is
installed in) and inside to accept whatever fitting(s) you use

I use a larger *outflow* BH than for *inflow* - a 2" BH will handle up
to
~ 2000 gph , although more than ~1200 gph is pushing the envelope for bio-
filtration in a 45 gal barrel
