Default Crape myrtle suprise

I was checking my 15 year old crape myrtle in my garden and noticed
that above the new growth was the spindly, tip of the branch.. In
pruning some of the new growth, I kept one just for kicks and decided
to put it in a jar of water. I smashed the end that I had putin the
water and a week or so later, new growth was emerging. It looked like
the Forsythia branches one forces to bloom indoors. I took it out of
the jar to check if there were roots...there were not any roots. I put
it back into the water. Now I'm wondering if I could repot this
eventually? Of course it has to be rooted.
