I have made stewartia cuttings, but I have never tried
an airlayer because I have heard that the bark is too
thin and the process very delicate. I have two
stewartia that I let go. There is a possible 5 tree
grove if I can successfuly airlayer 3/4" stock. So is
there anyone with direct stewartia experience?

Did you do anything different?
In theory according books it is very easily
done.. even
cuttings root fast
it can take 3-6 months
I experienced with a maple that I start air
layering in
spring and was ready in september ,
started in november a second one ( bad season) and
I just
separarted in end of june
