They would be used to hold the drive gear on a GM distributor amongst
other things. Last time I used one was to install a large yellow knob on
a PP1 valve. That is a truck air brake valve. Typically, auto parts
stores will have a drawer with a selection of these pins.

Thanks for the information but not even close. This is a long thin ceramic
needle-like thing, more like a piece of cut coathanger but is made of
ceramic material. It goes through the impeller to keep it spinning in the
middle of the impeller well. It's stabilized at both ends so the impeller
can spin and not actually touch the sides of the well.
