three horizontal battens to the posts (that's why we used the spacer, so
that the fence lines up with the gravel board)

Nail featherboards to the horizontals. It will last a whole lot longer
than yukky panels

our neighbour just bought panels already made up with the vertical feather
boards already nailed on. they are good.
