Only my own experiences. Algae seems to grow quite well, as do certain
types of moss and some plants, but to keep a variety of plants looking and
growing well has always eluded me (and hundreds of others, judging by
various discussions in the aquaria newsgroups).

The symptoms described by roreaga seem fairly typical to me.
