And then there's the "Thermochron ibutton", a little metal widget that
looks like a button cell. One plus readout thingummy for the serial
port is US $35, from Dallas Semiconductor
(http://www.ibutton.com/ibuttons/thermochron.html). Bit much for a
thermometer, but it does a lot more, and you can pretend that you
urgently *need* one to log hard drive temperatures or whatever.
