property just got new sod laid down, how much water does it need, for how
long, thanks

Water until it feels spongy. Do it in the evening, or even twice a day if
very hot.

It is best to water heavily in the early AM (4 to 6:00). This lets the water
soak in before it evaporates. If you need to lightly water in the afternoon
to keep the sod from drying out, that's fine.

Pull back the corner of a couple of pieces of sod. If the soil underneath is
dry, water more. If it is damp, you're fine.
