While I generally agree that disabling Flash is a perfectly
acceptable way of keeping your computer crap-free, there is also
Flashblock (currently version 1.2.9) for FireFox. It replaces the Flash
object with a bland button you can click if you absolutely, positively
HAVE to see the crap.

And then there's also Adblock, in v.5.

It'll make your browsing experience a lot better. Once you bolster
Firefox with the right plugins, it's a lot like owning a phone- but
without the telemarketers (which we all dearly miss, right?).
