Well, you have to admit that it is at least as likely to work as
anything else :-)

As Rusty says, nothing will grow under the canopy of an established
yew - not even most of the larger fungi, incidentally - so there is
no point in trying. As Sacha says, some things will grow close to
yews, and root-running plants may invade the sterile area. But that
is the most you can hope for.

I didn't think we had any 'advisors' in this group - just members. Ah well.
