My father had an electric flymow. He managed to cut the cord twice, but
survived OK.

It did a good job, but you have to keep the lawn mowed regularly. If you let
the grass get long it becomes difficult for the flymow to cut as the long
grass slows its movement and overloads the motor as it tries to cut.

The same applies to petrol mowers too, of course, but they have enough grunt
to bash through the tall stuff..
