they'll be here before you can say.. Monsanto.

On the bright side Monsanto and Dupont have now released their intellectual
property to Mother Nature.
You can currently get your own pesticide resistant quasi-heirloom
crops by
1) Breed heirloom with related resistant weed stock
2) Plant the resulting seed
3) Spray the crop with the herbicides
4) Let survivors go to seed
5) Repeat steps 2-4 for about 6 generations (For many plants you can do
that in under 3 years).
6) Enjoy what is essentially a pesticide resistant heirloom crop.

Best of all Monsanto and Dupont have yet to lobby the governments to make
it illegal yet. (Vs the successful lawsuits against farmers that
intentionally planted non-GM crops next to GM crops).
