Do you know the names of the plants in the back bed? I can't quite make
out what they are from the pic; but you could make a start by getting
more of the same, and putting them round the edge, with taller stuff in
the middle. At the edge I'd want to grow some things which flopped over
the stones in a natural way. Some of the stuff in the back bed could
probably be split: you divide the plant, making sure to get a bit of
root on the cut-off part, and plant in the new position. Get back to us
if you can find out the names or get some close-up photos.

It looks as though a small tree would be good for the very middle --
something which flowers is always effective, so a flowering crab-apple
such as Malus floribunda or a flowering cherry might do the trick. Have
a look at your neighbours' gardens, and don't be afraid to ask them the
name of anything you like the look of. Later in the year you can put
some bulbs in for a show next spring or summer.
