Default Ulmus Parvifolia losing its leaves.

Hi I am quite new to bonsai trees, having had an Ulmus Parvifolia for
christmas.
Until about a week ago it was a very healthy looking little tree,
growing like mad (shoots upto an inch and a half long over a couple of
days - which I pruned).
I have been watering it every couple of days - not letting it dry out
but not letting it get soggy. All of a sudden it's losing its leaves
like mad.
It's indoors in a warm-ish room (not too hot though) in semi shade near
a south facing window (the tree doesn't get any direct sun though).
Is this normal? When do they come back? Do I need to be doing
something different?

Thanks in advance
Sam
