What is a wonder to me about orchids is how they ended up being
the way they are. To me that means the ones that try to look
like "bugs in heat", the ones that smell like rotting meat, the
ones that trap bugs or that make it arduous for them to get out
and get glued with pollen in the meantime, the one that Darwin
figured had to have a moth with a 12" tongue to pollinate
it.......all those things make orchids "wonderful" to me.

So, as far as suggestions for how to set up the display I would
try to find pictures of the bugs the orchids are trying to
mimic or whatever else they are trying to use to get a
pollinator's attention.

I would also think that "extremes" would be a good "wonder"
element. For that I can think of the longifolium with their
long sepals (it is sepals, isn't it?) or orchids with
particularly intense colour or intense fragrance or huge
flowers or itsy bitsy ones or super numerous ones or the super
"hairy" ones (or the ones that look particularly
"naughty").....or ones that have intriguing stories about them
for one reason or another. Also perhaps ones that were
featured in recent book releases.

Does that help at all?

Okay, all you creative people, see what you think. Our local

society's show
and sale is next weekend. I'm doing a tabletop display. The

theme of the
show is "The Wonder of Orchids".

What would be a good tie-in to that theme? I'm usually

fairly ingenious,
but I'm stuck on white rabbits, a queen of hearts, tarts, and

a looking
glass. ;oD

Any ideas?
