That's an interesting point, I had not read all the newsgroups in the
header.

Or from u.k.local yorkshire which everyone is being warned

I wonder then whether I could set up my machine to stop posts from either
of those newsgroups.

I think someone covered your query recently.
Subscribe to uk.something and then create a rule to delete posts.
So If you want to avoid posts from alt.porn etc you need to subscribe to
it:-)
