i heard a rumour.....

im a coffee fan and have spent grinds
available on a daily basis

could i spinkle them in veg containers
will they impart a taste on the veg
(mostly salad leaves)

Yes, there has been some research into this and they found coffee does deter
slugs at low concentrations and kill them at high doses.
I seem to remember that it was the caffeine that did the trick so de-caf
would be no good.
