Default Planting tulips now?!

The message
from AdrianS Large@Large contains these words:

What happens if you plant tulips bulbs now (April 11th)?

They will probably make some roots and leaves, the leaves will
shrivel to nothing in June because that's what tulips do..

The bulbs have shoots and roots so will they flower in a few weeks?

Unlikely, I think they won't have time to flower before they go into
dormant mode. But if you don't plant them now they are doomed anyway.

Will they make a new bulb and flower next year?

They won't have time to make a new bulb before going dormant. Your
only hope is that the flower bud inside, will stay alive until the next
cycle in 2007. Unfortunately in most of the UK, tulips are not very
longlived bulbs anyway . If they were daffodils crocus or snowdrops,
eventually they would recover and start flowering. I wouldn't care to
bet tulips will, but there's nothing to be lost by planting them.
